Cookie Policy
1. What Are Cookies
Cookies are small text files placed on your device by websites you visit. They allow the website to remember your actions and preferences over a period of time, so you don’t have to re-enter them whenever you return to the site or browse from one page to another.
Under Spanish law (LSSI-CE) and the EU ePrivacy Directive, we are required to obtain your consent before placing non-essential cookies on your device. Essential cookies required for the Service to function are exempt from the consent requirement.
2. Cookies We Use
| Cookie name | Provider | Category | Duration | Purpose |
|---|---|---|---|---|
__session | Clerk | Essential | Session cookie — deleted automatically when the browser is closed. | Maintains your authenticated session. Required for login to work. Cannot be disabled. |
__client | Clerk | Essential | Persistent — expires 1 year after last authentication. | Identifies the browser for Clerk’s authentication flow. Required for login to work. Cannot be disabled. |
counsel-cookie-consent | Counsel | Essential | Persistent — expires 1 year from the date of your consent choice. | Stores your cookie consent preference so we do not ask again on every visit. If this cookie is deleted, the consent banner will reappear on your next visit and you will be asked to make your choice again. |
3. Essential Cookies
Essential cookies are strictly necessary for the Service to function. They include:
- Authentication cookies (set by Clerk): these cookies are required to keep you logged in. Without them, you would need to log in on every page. They do not track your activity outside of Counsel.
- Preference cookies (set by Counsel): these store functional preferences such as your cookie consent choice.
Essential cookies are set automatically and cannot be disabled without making the Service non-functional. No consent is required for these cookies under LSSI-CE.
4. Analytics
We use PostHog (PostHog Inc., EU data region) to collect anonymised product analytics — which features are used, how consultations progress, and where users encounter difficulties. This helps us improve the Service.
PostHog analytics are strictly consent-gated: they are only activated if you accept analytics cookies via the cookie consent banner. If you select “Essential only”, no analytics data is collected. PostHog is configured with IP anonymisation enabled, no session recording, no autocapture, and no personal profiles. Data is stored in the EU (Frankfurt).
We do not use any marketing cookies, advertising cookies, retargeting pixels, or social media tracking cookies.
5. Managing Your Preferences
You can change your cookie preferences at any time:
- Cookie banner: clear your
counsel-cookie-consentcookie from your browser settings to re-trigger the consent banner on your next visit. - Browser settings: you can block or delete all cookies via your browser settings. Note that blocking essential cookies will prevent you from logging in.
- Contact: email us at legal@mycounsels.com to request manual opt-out from analytics.
Withdrawing consent does not affect the lawfulness of processing that occurred before withdrawal.
6. Third-Party Cookies
Clerk (our authentication provider) sets cookies on the accounts.mycounsels.comsubdomain as part of their authentication infrastructure. Clerk’s use of cookies is governed by their own Privacy Policy.
No third-party analytics or tracking cookies are set.
